Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Nursing Assistants provide empathic care to patients, their families and visitors with integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN, Nursing Assistants communicate face‑to‑face with patients and visitors to convey treatment procedures and visitor hours, encourage and support those who may be despondent or apprehensive, and respond promptly to changing patient needs.
Duties- Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
- Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
- Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
- Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rates.
- Attend to daily living activities, personal hygiene, and simple human needs to maintain a comfortable clinical environment.
- Feed persons requiring assistance to ensure appropriate nourishment.
- Bathe, dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of persons in care.
- Maintain rights, dignity, and confidentiality of persons in care.
- Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to keep the facility clean, sanitary, and orderly.
Possession of or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities during the probationary period.
One year of satisfactory full‑time experience in the provision of simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision.
Preferred: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.
Pre‑Employment Requirements- Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
- Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

SalaryThe salary range for this position is $40,807 - $42,810 per year (prorated as per FTE).
