Position Summary
Stony Brook Medicine seeks Nursing Assistants who provide empathic care to patients, their families, and visitors with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Under RN supervision, Nursing Assistants have frequent face‑to‑face communication to convey information on treatment procedures and visit hours, and they encourage and support those who may feel despondent or apprehensive. Qualified candidates demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, possess knowledge of patient care, and respond to changing patient needs by making ethical decisions and adhering to our high standards of excellence.
Duties- Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
- Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
- Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
- Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rate.
- Attend to daily living activities, personal hygiene, and simple human needs to maintain a comfortable and therapeutic atmosphere.
- Feed persons requiring assistance to ensure appropriate nourishment.
- Bathe, dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of persons in care.
- Maintain persons in care rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Occasionally perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to keep the clinical facility clean, sanitary, orderly, and properly supplied.

Possession of or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period. - NURSING ASSISTANT 2-Required
:
One year of satisfactory full‑time experience in the provision of simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision. - Preferred
: NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved program; one year of patient care experience; and a High School Diploma or GED.
- Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
- Complete electronic reference checks with a minimum of three professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State licenses or certificates.
- Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke‑free environment; smoking is strictly prohibited on campus.
- All hospital positions may be subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.
- This position may require wearing respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair.
- When faced with an institutional emergency, employees in essential positions may be required to remain onsite or report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations.

CompensationSalary range: $40,807 – $42,810 per year (pro‑rated as per FTE). Additional benefits include generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
