Position Summary
Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to inpatient or outpatient units, maintaining daily contact with patients. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, directing them, answering telephones, performing data entry, maintaining logs, preparing and updating patient charts, filling out medication tickets, preparing requisitions, mailing letters, and delivering supplies and records to designated units.
Duties- Orient patients and families to the unit, provide general information, and serve as a contact.
- Give information on patient condition within policy bounds and direct visitors to appropriate locations.
- Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse, and by filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions.
- Receive new admissions.
- Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log, and clinic log.
Eligible List Appointment:
Candidates must be on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk
1. Provisional appointment requires one year of full‑time clerical or secretarial experience in a health‑care setting, must take the mandatory examination, and must be on the eligible list. 55b/c appointment requires the mandatory qualifications and a valid eligibility letter. Section 70.1 transfer requires one year of permanent competitive service in an approved title.
- Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
- Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

CompensationSalary range: $40,807–$42,810 per year with salary grade SG7. Additional benefits include location pay, inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential, and comprehensive leave, health plans, and state pension.
