Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher)
- Experience with microbiology laboratory assays
- Experience in operating standard laboratory equipment and carrying out test procedures
- Experience in data collection and interpretation
- Experience with immunological assays and related molecular biology techniques
- Experience with nucleic acid isolation and amplification methods
- Experience with experimental nephrology
The Research Support Specialist will assist the research project of the Principal Investigator in the Department of Pediatrics in accordance with the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. Within defined test or analytical protocols, the incumbent will operate equipment, carry out test procedures, collate and interpret data, and ensure all experiments are conducted appropriately. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time‑management skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
The role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Conduct experiments; provide technical laboratory support and/or animal handling to assist with experiments conducted.
- Perform literature search and stay current in the field by reading and discussing literature and experimental results with the supervisor and/or PI.
- Collect data, record observations and measurements, and prepare reports for review by supervisor and/or PI.
- Other duties or projects as assigned.
