Overview
Maintenance Assistant – Job Number: 2504771. This full-time position provides maintenance service to the campus community. Maintains the work area in a clean and safe manner and uses required hand and power tools. All assigned tasks are to be accomplished in a timely and appropriate manner.
Responsibilities- Operate hand and power tools.
- Assist in the repair and construction of walls and drop ceilings. Ensure completed work meets quality standards.
- Assist others in the painting or carpentry trades.
- Assist in the repair and installation of floor tile, cove base, and doors.
- Follow departmental guidelines and policies regarding job duties, work rules, safety, completion of work, and wearing the proper safety equipment. Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Two years full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or completion of a two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training from technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math, 45 hours of technical communications, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. The candidate must be able to perform moderate to heavy manual labor and be able to perform tasks such as bending, lifting/moving up to 50 lbs, stretching, and climbing.
Must be able to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding, or a man lift over ten feet in height. Must understand and follow written and oral instructions. Must have and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License with a clean motor vehicle record. Special note:

Special NotesThis is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt; eligible for overtime. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. SG 9 Hiring Rate $42,641 plus location pay of $4,000 per year. The selected candidate must clear a background investigation.
