Under the leadership of a new Director, SBCC is entering a phase of significant growth and leadership in the field. Stony Brook Cancer Center (SBCC) is seeking applicants at the Assistant, Associate or Professor levels in the areas of basic and/or translational research. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic growth environment, can engage across disciplines and is focused on making an impact.

Candidates whose expertise synergizes with priority areas are of particular interest. The following three programs within the cancer center represent areas of strength:
1. Oncogenic Drivers and Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis;
2. Lipid Signaling and Metabolism in Cancer;
3. Imaging, Biomarker Discovery and Engineering Sciences. Overarching themes across programs include Population Sciences and in Community Outreach and Engagement.
The successful candidate will be expected to collaboratively work toward building research excellence, with the goals of increasing knowledge in a transformative manner and improving outcomes for those with or at risk for cancer. This includes fostering growth and enhancing the external peer-reviewed cancer research in the Cancer Center. Applicants must be an accomplished scientist in cancer research, have track record in extramurally funded research and have a record of mentorship, all commensurate with rank.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD or equivalent.

PhD, MD, MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) degree. Three (3) years of Postgraduate research experience. National recognition in cancer research commensurate with rank. An established record of externally funded grant awards for Associate and Professor ranks as the contact Principal Investigator (PI), and high potential for attaining such for Assistant Professor rank.

Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching, mentorship across cancer center training continuum. Research focus that demonstrates ability to collaborate and highlight current Stony Brook Cancer Center Research Programs. An Outstanding record of research accomplishment as demonstrated by lead and/or senior authorship of publications in basic and/or translational fields with relevance to Cancer.

Tenure/Non-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for tenure and/or a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine ( School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure ).

Long Island's premier academic medical center, Stony Brook Medicine, represents Stony Brook University's entire medical enterprise and integrates all of Stony Brook's health-related initiatives: education, research and patient care. It encompasses Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Children's Hospital, the five Health Sciences schools — Dental Medicine, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing and Social Welfare — as well as the major centers and institutes, programs and more than 50 community-based healthcare settings throughout Suffolk County.

With 624 beds, Stony Brook University Hospital serves as Suffolk County's only tertiary care center and Regional Trauma Center. Stony Brook Children, with more than 180 pediatric specialists in 30 specialties, offers the most advanced pediatric specialty care in the region. In the Medical and Research Translation (MART) building, two floors are occupied by Stony Brook University Cancer Center’s outpatient services, and four floors are devoted to cancer research.
