Job Description

Purpose of this position: Provide coordination of support services to children and their families who live in conditions which place the children at risk of not succeeding in school. Ensure these children receive the support needed to follow a successful educational path.

Reports to: Building Principal

Qualifications:
  • Ability to identify risk and protective factors in working with families and students.
  • Extensive knowledge of local resources that could provide assistance for families and students.
  • Knowledge of comprehensive family support services and professional referral services.
  • Background that is sensitive to the needs of diverse populations with limited resources.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, working cooperatively with both school and community.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and priority setting skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to organize and think clearly while communicating, organizing, and evaluating.
  • Knowledge of district organizational structure and function, as well as laws, rules and regulations pertaining thereto.
  • Ability to communicate within the structure of the organization as well as the community.
  • Ability to clearly articulate goals and expectations to adults and students.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Education:

    B.A./B.S. preferred.
  • Certification:
    Preferred social work or human services.
  • Valid Iowa driver's license.
  • Experience:

    Experience in working with a variety of persons and agencies to achieve common goals.
  • Experience with school/community and interagency collaboration.
  • Experience and expertise in human services, counseling services, and/or case management.
  • Experience with interagency collaboration.
  • Equipment:
    Office equipment such as cell phones, tablets, laptops, multi-line phone systems, fax machines, copiers, and computers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Engage in direct service support of students and families to increase academic success.
  • Provide students and families with information and referrals to local and nearby resources.
  • Attends student study teams and other similar meetings for the purpose of communication and service coordination.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously monitor case plans with at-risk students/families.
  • Attend community meetings as a representative of SLCSD.
  • Assist students and their families in overcoming barriers to utilizing services.
  • Provide emergency transportation for students and families.
  • Develop, coordinate and provide workshops and support groups for students and families, in conjunction with district staff and agency representatives.
  • Communicate information to school administrators and staff.
  • Prepare and maintain paperwork for the district, including annual reports.
  • Maintain confidential records for all activities, and confidentiality with volunteer/community members.
  • Create and maintain a cooperative, nurturing, consensus building service environment.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and conventions appropriate to district needs and for professional growth.
  • Keep current of family support services and educational development research.
  • Maintain a reliable attendance record.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the superintendent or the Board of Education.
Terms of Employment
  • Full-Time
  • 260 day position.
  • Per Board Policies and administrative guidelines.
  • Have private transportation with proof of insurance.
  • Salary contingent upon experience and degree.
