Position Summary

The Certified Substitute Teacher supports Storm Lake Community School District's commitment to ensuring all students achieve at grade level by implementing provided instruction and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. This role ensures continuity of learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher while fostering positive relationships and upholding classroom expectations.

Essential Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities as provided by the classroom teacher
• Maintain continuity of learning and keep students engaged in academic tasks
• Provide support to meet diverse student needs as appropriate

• Establish a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment that values students' cultures and identities
• Build positive relationships that support student engagement and behavior
• Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior supports

• Supervise students in the classroom and during transitions (hallways, lunch, recess, etc.)
• Follow established classroom routines and school procedures
• Respond appropriately to student behavior and ensure a safe environment

• Maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines
• Communicate relevant information to school staff regarding the day's activities
• Refer parent/family communication to the classroom teacher or administration
• Demonstrate flexibility, reliability, and professionalism

• Valid Iowa teaching license or substitute authorization required
• Mandatory reporter training for child abuse
