Under the general direction of the Production Supervisor, the primary role is to assist in various capacities including, but not limited to, painting, sanding, lamination, bonding, and inspection.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS* - Responsibilities include some or all of the following:
Painting
- Understands safety and procedural issues for the process.
- Reads and understands production process instruction sheet and identifies all relevant materials and equipment.
- Maintains a clean work area and general housekeeping of all equipment and scales.
- Prepares coatings and processing equipment per manufacturer specifications.
- Prepares syntactic/composite part surfaces for coatings to ensure final product meets customer requirements, including but not limited to:
- Surface repair (patching and/or glassing)
- Sanding and gloss coat
- Priming
- Coats parts per customer requirements
- Cures and finishes parts per customer requirements.
- Maintains paint booth and finishing area to ensure safety and production standards are met.
- Inspects and prepares final parts for shipments.
- Prepares equipment preventive maintenance schedule.
- Requires monitoring and record material used in the database and traveler.
- Participates in inventory assessment of raw materials and data collection.
- Evaluates supplies status and notifies or orders supplies.
- Participates in evaluation and development of new coatings and/or coating techniques.
- As needed to assist the Fabrication team with other jobs.
- Understands safety and procedural issues for the process.
- Reads and understands the production process instruction sheet, including identification of all relevant materials and equipment.
- Reads and understands part drawings and identifies important details and dimensions.
- Inspects parts for dimensional qualities.
- Inspects parts for lamination or secondary process readiness.
- Ensures material and supplies availability for upcoming production.
- Schedules daily lamination tasks to ensure optimum throughput to meet customer demand.
- Cleans and maintains mix and weighing equipment.
- Performs secondary operations (i.e., insert installation) when necessary.
- Bonding
- Reads and understands process sheet and/or packing slip.
- Identifies proper block type and acceptable lot numbers.
- Trims and dry fits block prior to bond process
- Records all lot information onto process sheets.
- Weighs out adhesives and prepares bagging/bonding materials.
- Bonds and vacuum bags block or finished parts to meet drawing or process sheet specifications.
- Trim/package or crate items for shipment
- Fiber glassing
- Reads and understands part drawings for glass layout and thickness details.
- Prepares work area for glassing process.
- Cuts/prepares fiberglass for lay-up process.
- Properly weighs and mixes resins for lay-up.
- Performs layout process including vacuum bagging when required.
- Trims and finishes parts, including sanding and ready's part for final coatings.
- Inspects and prepares final parts for shipment.
- Prepares equipment preventive maintenance schedule.
- Participates in inventory assessment of raw materials and data collection.
- Evaluates supplies status and notifies or orders supplies.
- Paint spray systems
- Paint brushes and other applicators
- Tape measures, calipers, and other measuring devices
- Various hand tools
- Scales
- Sanding/polishing systems/ Files/Grinders/Saws
- Clamps
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Industry experience with paint spray systems required
- Must be able to lift, push and pull greater than 50 pounds. With the occasional need to lift up to 100 pounds
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to walk through a large manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to use hand tools
- Constant use of hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Repetitive hand and arm movements.
- Occasional bending and twisting.
- Frequently moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to wear PPE as necessary (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, etc.).
