DISPATCHER What you will be doing:
- Logs all orders booked and all work performed onto dispatch sheet
- Dispatches all runs in a timely manner to ensure deliveries are made as scheduled
- Moves loaded and empty containers to and from the rail in order to meet pre‑scheduled cut‑off times for export loads and to prevent storage charges for inbound loads and empties
- Maintains an accurate inventory of equipment
- Provides customers with accurate and timely information regarding activity and equipment inventories
- Assists in billing by writing up cover sheets and matching with work orders or delivery orders
- Assists Terminal Manager in all phases of managing the operation
- Compiles list of available vehicles
- Assigns vehicles according to factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight requirements, and preference of user
- Issues keys, record sheets, credentials, and equipment to drivers
- Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return
- Investigates overdue vehicles
- Directs activities of drivers by two‑way radio
- Tracks in‑transit shipments
- Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged merchandise
- Maintains record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made, and other expenses
- Establishes service or delivery routes
- Other duties as required and assigned
- Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
