The educator is responsible for providing engaging, hands‑on instruction as part of the Summer EXCEL program. This role supports students in elementary grades through enrichment opportunities that may include sports and games, arts, music, STEM, Spanish, and other creative or exploratory offerings. Enrichment teachers foster curiosity, confidence, collaboration, and a love of learning through interactive, developmentally appropriate experiences in a less traditional instructional setting.
Curriculum and materials may be provided depending on the enrichment area, and teachers work collaboratively with program staff and, when applicable, high school leadership interns.
- Implements the curriculum with fidelity while adapting instruction to meet student needs
- Creates a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and risk‑taking
- Facilitates hands‑on, inquiry‑based learning experiences
- Builds student confidence, persistence, and collaboration skills through structured and unstructured learning activities
- Manages student behavior effectively in a less traditional, project‑based classroom setting
- Collaborates with Stoughton High School leadership interns, or other SASD staff to support instruction and classroom activities
- Encourages active student participation and ownership of learning
- Maintains a safe learning environment and takes reasonable precautions to safeguard student health and safety
- Communicates professionally and effectively with program staff and administrators
- Participates in required training and preparation sessions related to the curriculum
- Follows all district policies, procedures, and expectations related to student supervision and conduct
- Must hold any valid Initial, Professional, Provisional, or Master Educator and/or Lifetime License in the category of teaching, administration, or pupil service to teach enrichment courses to meet qualifications set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
- Interest or experience in education, discovery-based learning, or project-based learning preferred
- Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
- Background check/fingerprint clearance as required by DPI
- Strong oral communication skills to engage students in active learning
- Ability to communicate instructions and expectations clearly and age-appropriately
- Passion for teaching and learning
- Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm
- Ability to manage children in a non-traditional classroom environment
- Strong collaboration skills when working with interns and program staff
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Occasional (1-33%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting, reaching, and stair climbing
- Lifting: 0-10 pounds constantly (66-100%)
- Work is performed primarily in a classroom or school-based setting during summer programming
- Regular interaction with elementary students, high school interns, and staff
- May involve typical classroom noise and hands‑on activity associated with an enrichment course
