Description
The Stoughton Area School District is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE English/Language Arts Teacher at Stoughton High School effective April 2, 2026, through the remainder of the school year.
The Educator is responsible for providing instruction aligned with the Wisconsin Academic Standards to students in grades 9-12 in a general education high school setting. This role includes planning, delivering, and assessing instruction to support student learning, academic growth, and progress toward high school graduation.
Essential Job Functions:
Demonstrates knowledge in subjects taught and content-related pedagogy.
Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the classroom.
Develops and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
Encourages students to take an active role in their own learning.
Guides the learning process to achieve curriculum and district strategic plan goals.
Implements revised district curricula and utilizes new instructional materials to support student learning.
Understands prerequisite relationships among concepts and skills.
Incorporates global awareness, cultural diversity, and inclusive practices into instruction.
Employs a variety of instructional methods and materials appropriate to meet objectives.
Regularly assesses student progress and provides feedback to support understanding and learning.
Promotes deep conceptual learning, critical thinking, discussion, and debate.
Communicates with families regarding student progress and development.
Supports standards for student conduct and discipline, including classroom rules and maintaining order.
Assists in the collection and analysis of data related to student attendance and behavior.
Takes reasonable precautions to safeguard students' health and safety.
Collaborates regularly with colleagues, students, and families.
Implements district policies and procedures governing student life and classroom management.
Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers; assists the principal with evaluations.
Pursues continuous professional development to maintain and improve instructional competence.
Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
Works cooperatively with staff, students, families, and the community.
Complies with district personnel policies and regulations.
Education and/or
Experience:
Possess or qualify for a valid Wisconsin teaching license.
Meet qualifications set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
Previous teaching experience preferred, particularly at the high school level.

Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, families, and the community.

Physical Requirements:

Requires occasional physical activity such as bending, lifting, and walking to perform essential job functions.
May involve exposure to typical classroom noise and conditions associated with a school environment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Wisconsin DPI Educator License endorsed for English/Language Arts (2300)
Valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
Background check/fingerprint clearance as required by DPI.
