Job DescriptionThe Environmental Compliance Senior Scientist coordinates the Environmental Compliance group in multi‑media sampling, subsurface investigations, sediment and waste characterization, ESA activities, NEPA, and permitting. The role requires developing and executing technical scopes of work and budgets, collaborating with internal and external partners, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProject Oversight and Operations
- Produce high‑quality documentation of compliance services, including NPDES permitting and other regulatory scopes.
- Lead implementation of environmental site assessments, subsurface investigations, permitting, and multi‑media sampling projects.
- Review, interpret, and report data, preparing work plans and project proposals.
- Manage projects from initiation to completion, ensuring scope, budget, and schedule adherence.
- Provide mentorship and training to staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Oversee scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation for projects.
- Review draft documents to ensure compliance with NPDES, NEPA, RCRA, CWA, ESA, and other regulations.
- Maintain company health, safety, and environmental standards throughout project phases.
- Develop and implement quality control protocols and ensure operational procedures reflect current laws.
- Oversee QA/QC processes for scientific data and reports.
- Oversee editing and release of technical materials and scope of service documents.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and technical staff to meet deliverables.
- Oversee environmental data collection and analysis using appropriate methodologies.
- Prepare comprehensive scientific reports with data interpretation and client recommendations.
- Present findings to clients, stakeholders, and at scientific conferences.
- Support business development and new business generation.
- Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring satisfaction with project outcomes.
- Collaborate with government agencies, non‑profits, and other stakeholders to advance projects.
- B.S. in Geology, Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- 10+ years of professional experience in geology, engineering, or environmental sciences, with a record of leading successful projects.
- Proven knowledge of environmental laws and regulations (CWA, RCRA, NSR, ESA, NEPA) and experience preparing required documents.
- Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, or equivalent certification.
- Experience with multimedia sampling (surface water, groundwater, sediment, soil, stormwater).
- Experience working with or within environmental regulatory agencies.
- Experience writing and securing research grants.
- Leadership experience in managing and mentoring teams.
- Proficiency in data analysis software.
- Light physical work, moving objects up to 20 lbs.
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Walking on uneven terrain as required.
Periodic field assignments and occasional overnight travel may be required.
