The Senior Environmental Inspector is a seasoned field professional responsible for leading complex inspection projects, overseeing workload distribution, helping business development and growth of the group, and mentoring junior inspectors. Building on all 3 Environmental inspector responsibilities, the Senior EI ensures technical excellence and regulatory compliance across multiple sites, provides advanced quality control oversight, and delivers internal training and presentations. This role focuses on high‐level project coordination and field leadership as well as using that person’s knowledge and contacts to bring in business development and new project avenues.
This position requires 10 plus years in the field working in this type of position with stormwater and construction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project Oversight & Field Leadership
- Serve as Lead Field Manager on the most intricate projects: coordinate daily field assignments, ensure compliance with permits and BMPs, and troubleshoot site‐specific challenges.
- Monitor multiple large‐scale projects simultaneously—track progress, prioritize inspections, and allocate field resources efficiently.
- Act as the escalation point for critical compliance issues: intervene promptly when permit deviations or safety concerns arise and guide the EI1,2,3 teams to resolution.
- Conduct periodic field audits of EI2 and EI1 activities to confirm that inspections, sampling, and data collection meet contractual and regulatory standards.
Workload Analysis & Team Coordination
- Analyze inspection schedules and resource capacity across the Environmental Inspection services group to balance workloads, minimize backlogs, and ensure timely deliverables.
- Collaborate with supervisory staff to assign field crews based on project complexity, geographic location, and inspector qualifications.
- Maintain a dynamic tracking system for inspection milestones, report deadlines, and staff availability; adjust assignments as project needs evolve.
- Identify training or performance gaps among EI staff and coordinate supplemental coaching or shadowing opportunities.
Advanced Technical QA/QC & Regulatory Interpretation
- Lead comprehensive Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews of assigned deliverables for large or technically complex sites, including inspection reports, SWPPPs, monitoring logs, and regulatory submittals.
- Apply deep knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Ohio EPA permitting) to interpret permit requirements, guide field teams, and resolve nuanced compliance issues.
- Develop and maintain standardized templates and checklists to ensure consistency and technical accuracy across all inspection documentation.
- Liaise with regulatory agency representatives during inspections or site meetings to clarify technical requirements and expedite resolutions if non‐compliance is identified.
Mentorship & Internal Training
- Mentor EI staff by providing one‐on‐one coaching, facilitating ride‑along sessions, and reviewing field reports to highlight opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and deliver internal training modules—covering topics such as advanced sediment control techniques, permit interpretation, and safety best practices—for compliance services personnel.
Reporting, Analysis & Process Improvement
- Prepare consolidated reports for internal stakeholders summarizing key performance metrics—such as inspection completion rates, non‐compliance incidents, and corrective action timelines—for large project portfolios.
