One-On-One Or Special Education Aide
Due to employee movement, the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District is seeking a One-On-One Or Special Education Aide. This position reports to an assigned administrator/supervisor and provides student services consistent with the district mission and legal requirements.
The minimum requirement is a valid state department of education license/permit. Qualifications include meeting mandated state/federal criteria, such as an approved degree or completion of requisite higher education credit hours/courses. The aide should display flexibility, reliability, self-discipline, and a willingness to take on challenging tasks. High ethical standards/integrity and a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment are also required.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training may be required for some assignments.
Duties may require providing physical assistance to students. Blood-borne pathogen/communicable disease, child abuse/neglect, CPR and/or first aid/injury prevention training may be required as a condition of employment. Some positions require specialized skills using communication boards, sign language, finger spelling, etc.
Essential functions include arriving prepared to start working on time, following established sign in/out procedures, complying with program and/or building work hours/schedules, performing non-teaching support services, preparing/distributing classroom materials, assisting with classroom records, providing student assistance with daily living activities, behavior management, discrete trial training, instructional support, social skills training, task redirection, etc., supporting an inclusive educational environment, working with program staff to identify student assistance strategies, helping students manage the learning environment, encouraging student accountability, active participation, cooperation, punctuality, dependability, etc.,
assisting students with personal care, and assisting with non-classroom activities.
The aide should exemplify professionalism, foster goodwill to enhance the district's public image, comply with drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures, contribute to an effective working environment, function as part of a cohesive team, keep an acceptable attendance record and be punctual, respect privacy, maintain the confidentiality of privileged information, work effectively with minimal supervision, perform tasks efficiently to meet deadlines, maintain open/effective communications, serve as a reliable information resource, prepare and maintain accurate records, submit required paperwork on time, provide prompt notification of personal delays or absences, refer policy interpretation questions to an appropriate administrator, seek clarification when directives are unclear, use active listening/problem-solving techniques, respect diversity, resolve issues tactfully, pursue opportunities to enhance personal performance, keep current with professional standards associated with work duties, update skills as needed to use task-appropriate technology effectively, take precautions to protect student and staff safety, help supervisors manage risks, maintain high standards for appropriate conduct, take action to address harassment and/or aggressive behavior, comply with administrative directives and federal/state laws when dealing with discrimination, inappropriate behavior, suspected child abuse or neglect, manage student behavior using positive behavioral support techniques, and perform other specific job-related duties as directed.
Working safety is essential to job performance. Employees must comply with applicable workplace safety conditions, regulations, health laws and district protocols, if duties involve any of the following situations: encounters with angry, rude and/or unpleasant individuals, exposure to air-borne particulates, chemicals, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noise, moving mechanical parts, odors and/or slippery/uneven surfaces, exposure to blood-borne pathogens and/or communicable diseases, exposure to weather conditions and/or temperature extremes, extensive standing/sitting, frequent balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, or reaching, operating and/or riding in a vehicle, working in proximity to vehicular traffic, performing difficult tasks that require dexterity, physical strength and stamina, traveling to meetings and work assignments, working at heights, in confined spaces and/or under diminished lighting.
