SCOPE:
The general responsibilities of the special education tutor are to provide instructional support in an effort to meet individual student needs. The tutor will use school and district resources to achieve goals and objectives and to provide feedback to staff regarding the student progress. This job description is intended to outline the general nature and level of work to be performed by individuals assigned to this position.
It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and qualifications required of the tutor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide academic instruction to students, either within a small group or individually
* Assist with implementing IEP goals/ objectives and Behavioral Intervention Plans
* Collaborate with teacher to assist with the preparation of instructional plans to meet the varied needs and abilities of the students, as necessary
* Communicate and cooperate to facilitate a close working relationship with teachers and other professionals
* Perform work under the direction of the teacher and accept feedback to improve practices
* Attend periodic professional development given by the school district to increase work-related competencies
* Responsible for maintaining student records, including formative and summative assessment, behavioral data, etc
* Motivate students to develop a positive attitude toward learning and foster pro-social skills
* Assist students in achieving a better understanding of subject-specific material and improve academic capabilities in designated subject areas
* Implement necessary behavioral supports if needed and collect data as directed
* Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, Pupil Services administrator(s) and / or building administrator
QUALIFICATIONS:
* State of Connecticut teaching certification preferred
* Experience as a classroom teacher is preferred
* Strong understanding of educational strategies and interventions for addressing diverse learning needs.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
* Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to working with students with varying needs
* Commitment to improving student achievement across all areas
Candidates required to hold the appropriate CT certification;
Special education certification preferred
