SCOPE
The Library Media Services Para educator will provide academic support and guidance to students in utilizing library resources, conducting research, and developing information literacy skills. This position involves assisting students with accessing and navigating digital and print resources, conducting research for assignments and projects, and fostering a love of reading and learning. The ideal candidate will have a passion for literature and information literacy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with students and educators.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Promote a welcoming environment by providing excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors to foster a positive library culture.
- Monitor students utilizing the media center during study halls and independent study periods, maintaining a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
- Assist students in locating and selecting appropriate print, digital, and multimodal resources for research, assignments, and recreational reading.
- Help students effectively navigate library catalog systems, online databases, and search engines.
- Instruct and support students in evaluating the credibility, accuracy, and relevance of sources, as well as proper citation practices.
- Provide tailored assistance to students with special needs and English Language Learners (ELL) to ensure equal access to all library resources.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and the Library Media Specialist (LMS) / Technology Integration Specialist (TIS) to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum and support student learning objectives.
- Collaborate with the Building Technology Support Specialist to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware, including interactive displays, document cameras, printers, and student devices (laptops/Chromebooks).
- In coordination with the Building Technology Support Specialist, set up and operate sound systems, microphones, and projection equipment for school assemblies, presentations, and evening activities.
- When requested by school administrators, capture high-quality digital photos and video of school events, and assist with basic digital media editing.
- Maintain proficiency with modern operating systems (Windows, Chrome
OS, macOS), cloud productivity suites (Google Workspace), and basic device management. - Maintain an accurate, up-to-date digital inventory of all multimedia equipment and library materials using District-Approved asset management software.
- Be the main point of contact for library collection management, including the acquisition and processing of new materials that align with student interests and curricular needs.
- Perform clerical aspects of library management and other technical or administrative duties as assigned by the LMS/TIS or building administration.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Associates degree or Passing Parapro exam required
- State of Connecticut teaching certification preferred
- Previous experience working in a library, educational setting, or tutoring environment preferred
- Strong understanding of educational strategies and interventions for addressing diverse learning needs
- Strong knowledge of library catalog systems, online databases, and internet research tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Passion for literature, information literacy, and promoting a culture of reading and lifelong learning.
- Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to working with students with varying needs
- Commitment to improving student achievement across all areas
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and strategies to meet the individual needs and learning styles of students
- Familiarity with educational technology tools and resources, including digital literacy skills and multimedia production
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment where all students feel valued and supported

- School-year, 10-month position per UAW contract
- Non-exempt
- Salary per UAW contract
Annual evaluation by the School Administrator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Must be able to push/pull, carry or lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
- Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, see, speak, reach, stretch with hands or arms, crouch, kneel, climb and stoop.
