At Lockheed Martin, we are pioneering the future of aerospace and defense. Our mission is to deliver advanced products and solutions that ensure the security and advancement of our nation and allies. We work in a fast‑paced environment where precision, innovation, and reliability are paramount.
The Work- Under direction of Working Leader or Supervisor, work from engineering drawings, operation sheets, complicated drawings, standard procedures, and general instructions to plan holding and machining methods for difficult machining operations on new, changed or special production parts and/or overhaul components where established tooling may be unavailable, unsuitable or in tryout stage.
- Set up and operate conventional or numerical controlled machine tools involving difficult and/or rework operations.
- Select and install alternate or improvise holding devices utilizing standard items such as clamps, straps, block, jacks, etc. in order to facilitate production operations.
- Select and devise a combination of cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and sequence of operations for machinability of parts where work areas may cause problems in meeting specifications.
- Work closely with supervision, machinists, and/or service groups as required to solve unusual machining problems or production difficulties, tryout tapes, demonstrate the feasibility of new methods and procedures or point out equipment inadequacies and malfunctions.
- Machine parts as necessary to resolve tooling problems and establish effective methods and techniques to be used by production operators.
- Set up and operate machine tools for the most difficult one‑piece repair operations where locating dimensions have been removed and alternate holding methods must be developed.
- Check machines previously set up to ensure that dimensional and finish requirements are being maintained and operators have been correctly instructed in machining and checking procedures.
- Use precision measuring equipment to check work in order to maintain quality standards.
- Exercise care to avoid excessive removal of stock.
- Ensure work conforms to quality standards.
- Keep working leader or supervisor apprised of all problem situations.
- Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety.
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator‑required upkeep.
- Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
- Perform other related work of a comparable or lower skill level, including deburring, polishing, and part marking and check work of other operators as required.
