Job Overview
Transportation Maintainer 4 (Flatbed Tractor Trailer Operator) – a full‑time, first shift position located on‑site in Stratford, Connecticut.
Position Highlights- Schedule:
Full‑time (40 hrs/week), First Shift (7:30 A.M.–4:00 P.M.), Monday–Friday - Location:

Operate low‑bed and other heavy equipment safely in accordance with safety guidelines. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment within District 3. Assist with emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, as required; may be called to work during storms, holidays and weekends.
Eligibility & Requirements- Current CDL Class A with tank endorsement
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Card (MEC)
- 30‑mile residency from the posted job location
- Willingness to accept assignment to emergency duties (snow/ice removal, during storms, holidays, weekends)
- Must complete interview and a practicum assessing required skills.
- Three years’ experience in construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, or maintenance/repair of roadways, roadsides, bridges, or airports, involving operation and care of mechanical equipment or work in a recognized maintenance trade.
- One year of that experience must involve operation of complex equipment or specialized skilled tasks (interpreted for a Transportation Maintainer 3 for state employees).
- Substitutions: A diploma from a vocational or technical school in a maintenance trade may substitute for two years of the general experience.
- Experience operating flatbed and low‑bed trailer equipment.
- Experience operating tractor‑trailer combinations with flatbed trailers for transport of equipment, materials, and oversized loads.
- Experience loading/unloading and transporting heavy equipment or specialized machinery.
- Experience transporting oversize/overweight loads while complying with permits and safety regulations.
- Experience conducting pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of tractors, trailers, and cargo securement devices.
- Require adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity to perform duties.
- Exposure to extreme weather, heavy lifting, high‑risk road and traffic conditions, heights, poison ivy, insect bites, and loud machinery.
- Might be required to complete an asbestos removal program and use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
