The Department of Medical Education and Scholarship at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM) is seeking an experienced faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or above (commensurate with experience) to teach neuroanatomy and neurophysiology content, facilitate in-person small groups of problem-based learning (PBL), provide large group lectures, and facilitate gross anatomy lab as needed. This position will cover faculty duties as assigned in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant program, and the School of Translational Biomedical Engineering and Sciences as their expertise allows.
Expectations- The faculty member will be based at either the Stratford, NJ or Sewell, NJ campus, with some travel between campuses as needed.
- Facilitate weekly PBL sessions for up to two groups, with each group meeting three times per week for 2.5‑hour sessions from July to May. (The length and frequency of sessions is subject to change.)
- Complete mid‑block (formative) and end‑of‑block (summative) student evaluations. Ensure all evaluations are executed using the specified template to maintain consistency and adherence to established guidelines.
- Contribute to case review, case‑writing, case‑enhancement, item writing for exams, faculty development, and medical education research.
- Faculty should be fully committed to learning how to facilitate problem‑based learning, which includes participating in training for PBL and ongoing faculty development programs provided. You are not expected to be an expert in all content of the case.
- Whenever possible, vacations should be scheduled during the students’ time off in the winter, spring, and summer. When you have conferences or vacation, prior notification will be required so that a substitute can be provided for your group.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Medical Education and Scholarship.
- Terminal degree (PhD, DO, or MD) with expertise in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology with significant gross anatomy lab experience. For physician applicants, clinical duties and/or teaching in the simulation center may be required.
- Experience teaching medical students and small group facilitation, specifically PBL experience, is preferred.
Assistant Professor: ($100,055 to $153,673) *
Associate Professor: ($118,684 to $182,460) *
Professor: ($138,324 to $212,660) *
* Placement within the range is determined by the candidate's qualifications, professional experience, and other factors.
