Special Education Teacher (LBS1 Required)

$5,000.00 SIGN ON/RETENTION BONUS!

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Teacher provides students with educational and behavioral programs that will enable them to reach their fullest educational potential, while rebuilding their self-esteem. Position may supervise the Paraprofessional Aide.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Ability to create, implement and adapt developmentally based curriculum for students of varied ages, learning styles and developmental levels
• Complete lesson plans for individual and group activities on and off-site
• Ability to move flexibly between students of varied developmental capacities
• Ability to manage a classroom and multiple teacher assistants, and collaborate within a multidisciplinary model
• Effectively communicate with and support parents/caregivers
• Provide direction, instruction, and coaching to Teacher Assistants in the classroom environment
• Support Teacher Assistants in understanding individual lesson plans for on and off-site activities

REQUIRED, master's preferred. Minimum two (2) years' teaching experience with students having special needs within a special education, hospital, or therapeutic setting is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of educational, child development, and classroom teaching/management theories. Good understanding of educational and therapeutic interventions REQUIRED.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: A valid Illinois PEL - REQUIRED. Special Education - LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist) Unlimited certification - REQUIRED.
