Maintenance Mechanic – 1st Shift
Fresh Express is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. Position key responsibilities include maintaining, repairing and modifying processing and packaging equipment, leading projects, and supervising personnel.
Position SummaryMaintenance Mechanic A is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing and modifying all processing, packaging and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency. In addition, the incumbent possesses supervisory responsibilities and functions.
Position Functions- Direct the daily activities and assign tasks to mechanics, including training and monitoring work.
- Assist in procurement of parts and planning of repairs.
- Lead complex projects, preventive maintenance activities, and repairs across the facility.
- Operate CMMS system and demonstrate 100% functionality to complete work orders and log corrective maintenance issues.
- Communicate effectively with Technical Support, production personnel and other mechanics to identify problematic areas and provide feedback.
- Perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot PLC controls, AC & DC motor controls, solid state motor controls, advanced circuits, grounding; interpret diagrams and test equipment.
- Read schematics, drawings, and manuals to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Perform emergency repairs: install, fabricate and modify stainless steel parts and equipment using shop equipment such as welding and cutting machines; weld using electrode, TIG and MIG welders.
- Support facility maintenance equipment including waste water equipment, compressed air, refrigeration and building safety equipment.
- Understand company objectives including productivity, yields, food safety, quality, customer service and cost goals; support daily activities.
- Oversee or perform daily inspections, emergency repairs, routine adjustments and follow preventive maintenance schedule.
- Maintain organized documentation and inspection records; be prepared for audits.
- Model professional workplace conduct and adherence to company policies such as the Code of Conduct, attendance, punctuality, efficiency, productivity, good hygiene.
- Provide support to Process Improvement projects and participate on safety teams.
- Serve as a resource to others for resolving mechanical and people issues.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Qualifications Desired
Physical Requirements: Stand extended periods, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend continuously, crawl, climb stairs and ladders, push/pull/lift 50 lbs, operate light motorized equipment, hand and power tools safely.
Work Environment: Occasionally exposed to wet/cold conditions (~34–36°F) and hot conditions, high precarious places (e.g., 25 ft above ground), outside weather (rooftop), moderate to loud noise requiring hearing protection.
- Proficient mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic troubleshooting skills and emergency repair skills; innovative solutions to recurrent problems.
- Use multi-meter and other measurement instruments.
- Read, write, speak English.
- Direct and lead daily maintenance activities during the shift.
- Work effectively in a team; promote teamwork and cooperation.
- Analyze work requirements and plan accordingly.
- Cross-train other mechanics and production personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code.
- Work with single and three-phase voltage.
- Read electrical/mechanical blueprints.
- Troubleshoot and repair AB PLCs (Allen‑Bradley, GE Fanuc).
- Understand schematics, drawings, manuals.
- Use CMMS to track work orders, PMs, inventory.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Math skills (fractions, decimals, percentages, metric, ratios).
- Familiarity with preventive and reliability‑based maintenance.
- Proficient fabrication and welding skills.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or English/Polish) are a plus.
- Food processing industry experience.
- 3–7 years experience with industrial, high‑speed processing, packaging, weighing, filling, and inspection equipment.
- Minimum of a high school diploma/GED; some technical school coursework; or a mechanical certification (any one of these qualifies).
