Overview
The Haeger Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Haeger insertion equipment to install self-clinching fasteners into sheet metal parts. This role supports high-mix, low-to-medium volume contract manufacturing and requires close attention to quality, safety, and production schedules.
ShiftPosition is Monday-Thursday night; 4pm-2:30am. OT as needed. Shift differential of $3.00 per hour.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Set up and operate Haeger insertion machines to install PEM® and other self-clinching fasteners
- Load, align, and secure sheet metal parts per work instructions and engineering drawings
- Select correct fasteners, tooling, and programs based on job requirements
- Inspect completed parts for fastener placement, orientation, and quality
- Perform first-article and in-process inspections using basic measuring tools
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and job travelers
- Maintain accurate production and quality documentation
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean and in good working order
- Identify and report quality issues, machine malfunctions, or tooling concerns
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
- Support continuous improvement, 5S, and lean manufacturing initiatives
- Work collaboratively with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams to meet customer deadlines
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of experience operating Haeger insertion machines or similar fastening / press equipment
- Experience in a metal fabrication or contract manufacturing environment
- Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T basics
- Familiarity with sheet metal materials (steel, stainless, aluminum)
- Comfortable using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Experience with PEM®, clinch nuts, studs, standoffs, and other self-clinching hardware
- Experience with high-mix, low-volume production
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Prior ISO or quality-driven manufacturing experience
- Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and metal-fabrication processes
- Requires use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection
- Work may include overtime or modified shifts based on customer demand
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Manual dexterity to handle small parts and fasteners
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving equipment
- Metal fabrication shop environment
- Exposure to machinery, sharp edges, and industrial equipment
- PPE required as specified by company policy
