Position Summary

Permco is seeking reliable, experienced Machine Maintenance Technicians at multiple skill levels to keep our production equipment running smoothly and minimize downtime. All levels require strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and a proven track record performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing equipment issues, and repairing machinery including but not limited to CNC mills and lathes in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Higher levels carry progressively greater independence, complexity, and leadership expectations.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities apply to all three levels. Tech 2 and Tech 3 are expected to handle more complex scenarios with greater independence;
Tech 3 additionally supports mentorship and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Inspect machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions, including but not limited to CNC mills and lathes.
  • Reassemble machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance inspecting drives, motors, and belts; checking fluid levels; replacing filters.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine corrective action using blueprints, repair manuals, and other resources.
  • Repair machines, equipment, or structures using hand tools, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, precision measuring instruments, and electrical/electronic testing devices.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments using hand tools, levels, or straightedges.
  • Plan and lay out repair work using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, and maintenance manuals.
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers, or other measuring instruments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate maintenance activity logs and equipment performance documentation.
  • Collaborate with production teams and engineers to resolve technical issues quickly and support continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized workspace in compliance with housekeeping standards.
  • Tech 3 (Senior):
    Serve as a technical resource and informal mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 technicians; lead troubleshooting on the most complex or critical equipment failures.
Qualifications & Skills by Level Tech 1 — Entry Level | 2–3 years experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a trade school program is a plus.
  • 2–3 years of experience in manufacturing or plant maintenance.
  • Foundational mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics with supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow direction from senior technicians.
Tech 2 — Intermediate | 3–7 years experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or technical certification preferred.
  • 3–7 years of experience in manufacturing or plant maintenance.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills across a range of plant equipment.
  • Ability to independently read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (rules, calipers, micrometers) a plus.
  • Welding, fabricating, or machining experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Tech 3 (Senior) — Advanced | 7+ years experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or technical certification strongly preferred.
  • 7 or more years of experience in manufacturing or plant maintenance.
  • Advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with a track record solving complex equipment issues.
  • Expert-level ability to read, interpret, and redline technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Expert proficiency with precision measuring instruments and diagnostic equipment is a plus.
  • Welding, fabricating, or machining experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, support peer development, and drive continuous improvement.
