Overview
Position Summary The Payroll Tax supervisor reports to the Payroll Tax Manager. This position is responsible for supervising and mentoring Payroll Tax Specialists, overseeing the processing and review of payroll taxes for our clients across the country, and serving as an escalation point for complex payroll tax matters.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities- Supervise, mentor, and assist the tax department with daily responsibilities, including providing guidance on complex tax cases and escalated issues.
- Maintain an elevated knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, and best practices relating to payroll taxes.
- Ensure the accurate and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax liabilities, including amended returns.
- Review and monitor payroll records to confirm tax transactions are recorded accurately.
- Oversee the generation, audit, and correction of W-2s and other required year-end reporting.
- Ensure compliance with department SOPs.
- Monitor and report on department KPIs.
- Conduct regular check-ins with team members to provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Lead bi-weekly meetings with team members to review performance, goals, and development opportunities.
- Ensure effective workload distribution and monitor team performance to meet service-level expectations and deadlines.
- Support client retention by providing clear, consistent communication and effective resolution of payroll tax issues.
- Collaborate with management and peers to identify and implement process improvements, training opportunities, and department efficiencies.
- Teamwork and an elevated level of collaboration.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Experience processing and reconciling payroll taxes across multiple states and locals.
- Previous lead or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements, and best practices.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
- Ability to effectively coordinate team activities and contribute individually within high-pressure, deadline-oriented environments, ensuring accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills, with a focus on effective communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and ability to master other software applications as needed.
- Experience in Master Tax, FOUNDATION®, and Salesforce
