Division Historian

This position serves as the Division Historian and will maintain and research historical rule making records to inform rule making and management decisions. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in the development of technical papers and presentations on Florida's fisheries to support the Commission's rule making process. This position is also the Division's representative in the northwest Florida region and will build relationships with stakeholders in the region and support the regional director as needed.

Work at FWC is cross-functional meaning duties may cross division/office lines. The Commission expects employees to function across FWC's organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.

• Support the Section Leader in the development and monitoring of the division's Annual Workplan, including tracking emerging issues.
• Participates in the rule making process to help the Commission build a record in support of their decisions.
• Drafts supporting documents in coordination with legal staff.
• Maintain the Division's Record of Decision for rule and policy development as it occurs, including for Executive Orders.
• Works with senior staff in the development of technical papers and presentations on management of various Florida marine fisheries to guide and support the Commission's rule making process.
• Prepare and maintain rule making history documents for major fish and invertebrate species by compiling management history from the records of Commission rule making and supplementing that record with relevant biological, social, and economic information.
• Research, synthesize, and manage historical regulatory information to inform ongoing and future rule making and management decisions in support of agency staff.
• Manage the Division's historical records in hard copy files, electronic records, and Laserfiche. Assists Division staff members with Laserfiche as needed.
• Edit Commission meeting minutes as needed.
• Represent the Division in the Northwest Region by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with marine fisheries stakeholders. Also coordinate with and brief the Regional Director on northwest Florida and statewide marine fisheries issues and stakeholder concerns.
• Is knowledgeable about and, as needed, coordinates and assists in Division of Marine Fisheries Management outreach events in Northwest Florida.
• Work with senior staff to coordinate with commercial and recreational fishers and other stakeholders to support the Commission's management process.
• Communicate and coordinate with division outreach staff on pre- and post-Commission meeting changes and any standardized responses for dissemination via website, phone calls, emails, outreach events, and other forums.
• Assist with coordinating and conducting public workshops and other information-gathering meetings on issues relating to Florida's marine fisheries.
• Assist the Division's Special Projects coordinator with response to public record requests.
• Work with the Division's Public Information Specialist to provide content for FWC's public marine fisheries websites and maintain/manage the Division SharePoint site
• Provides support to Section Leader, Deputy, and Division Director on special assignments as needed.

Six years of professional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities provided herein. A post-secondary degree(s) in life or physical science may substitute for the required experience as follows:

• Bachelor of Science degree and two years of direct professional experience.

or

• A Master of Science degree and a minimum of one year of direct professional experience.

Preference may be given to candidates with a Master of Science degree and one year of professional experience.

Salary range: $1730.77 – $1846.15 Biweekly, $45,000 – $48,000 Annually
