Senior Manager, Florida Conservation

The Senior Manager, Florida Conservation is a key on-the-ground individual in the state of Florida who is responsible for implementing the Florida Initiative's conservation priorities. The Senior Manager represents the organization with municipal and NGO partners, in the media, at public forums, and for spearheading and leading key initiative projects. This includes design and expansion of our Shores Forward municipal partnerships, our community-based plastics initiatives, and environmental justice projects and priorities statewide.

The Senior Manager will report to the Director of Florida Conservation and will work collaboratively with an array of cross-cutters from Ocean Conservancy's government relations, communications, and development teams, as well as with staff from other Ocean Conservancy programs including Trash Free Seas, the International Coastal Cleanup, Fish Conservation, and Ocean Justice.

Primary Responsibilities

The Senior Manager will be responsible for the following high-priority duties:

  • Develop and execute partnerships across the state of Florida that advance Ocean Conservancy's Florida conservation priorities.
  • Develop and execute a stakeholder outreach plan.
  • Expand the Shores Forward municipal government partnership program with multiple city and/or county governments across Florida.
  • Enhance and expand the Florida-specific policy agenda to address pressing issues such as harmful algal blooms, marine debris, climate change, carbon pollution and offshore oil and gas drilling.
  • Help with the collaborative development of materials that communicate Ocean Conservancy's Florida work, such as reports, infographics, op-eds, videos and presentations.
  • Represent Ocean Conservancy to the media, donors, partners and public officials.
Required Skills/Qualifications/Experience
  • 5+ years relevant experience in environmental advocacy, including in the state of Florida.
  • Proven ability to understand and analyze complex environmental issues; and develop and implement strategies to advance policy and implementation goals.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including capacity to communicate complex ideas compellingly to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate across disciplines and work collaboratively with diverse teams, networks and coalitions.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to identify, maximize and create opportunities to advance Ocean Conservancy's policy goals.
  • Creativity, flexibility, energy and commitment, and an ability to move rapidly in response to policy opportunities and the changing needs of a growing and evolving program.
  • Understanding of Florida political systems, policy making processes and institutions.
  • Sense of humor and collaborative work style with an appreciation of the benefit of a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • Willingness to travel across the state of Florida on a regular basis.
Education/Training
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is strongly desired.
Compensation

Ocean Conservancy is committed to equity in its pay practices and posts expected hiring ranges for each of its positions. Salary minimum is $69,937; salary midpoint is $92,579. The midpoint represents the market rate for a position, and a fully experienced employee may be paid at this level. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's specialty skills, years of experience, location, and unique background.
