Job DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the Team Leader II or Public Works Director, incumbent is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs of a variety of diesel/gas vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to troubleshooting and diagnosing problems on a variety of diesel/gas equipment. This is a safety sensitive position requiring screening for illegal substance and alcohol use. Work is reviewed through observation, completed work orders and written reports for results obtained.
EssentialFunctions
Repairs, maintains and/or overhauls diesel and gas, standard and specialized vehicles including ladder trucks, pumpers, garbage trucks, sweepers, and a variety of special equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, springs, rear-end and front loaders, hydraulics, fuel systems, air systems and air leaks. Troubleshoots, analyzes and diagnosing a variety of vehicle problems including automobiles, trucks, tractors, fire equipment, hydraulic operated pumps, small engine equipment and other equipment as necessary.
Responds to road-service calls in a timely manner, services and repairs disabled vehicles and equipment promptly. Uses specialized hand and power tools to make and complete repairs including welding and fabrication tools and materials. Assists in maintaining inventory and equipment records; requisitions parts, supplies, tools, equipment and other items as directed.
High School Diploma or equivalent; supplemented with two (2) years experience at a journey-level in diesel and gas engines and other automotive equipment repair; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience must have included working with and maintaining automotive equipment with hydraulics, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and be able to obtain a valid Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class "B", with air brake endorsement within sixty (60) days from hire date.
