Job Description

Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School (OSA) is seeking an experienced and dedicated special education teacher in Sturbridge, MA. OSA is an EL Education school that partners with Old Sturbridge Village to provide students with rigorous, real‑world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing environment. The role requires deep knowledge of special education law, strong IEP writing, and the ability to build a team around each student.

Responsibilities
  • Write clear, legally compliant, and educationally meaningful IEPs that reflect each student’s strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Implement IEPs with fidelity across inclusion and pull‑out settings, ensuring accommodations and modifications are consistently applied.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals, adjust supports as needed, and communicate progress clearly to families and team members.
  • Attend IEP meetings with professionalism, data, clarity, and genuine family partnership.
  • Maintain accurate and organized special education records and documentation in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Deliver high-quality, differentiated instruction in both inclusion and pull‑out settings across grades K–8, focusing on students with learning disabilities, attention challenges, and mild to moderate academic and social‑emotional needs.
  • Collaborate closely with general education teachers to co‑plan and co‑teach, ensuring students with IEPs have meaningful access to grade‑level content and Learning Expeditions.
  • Use data—including DIBELS, iReady, MCAS, and progress monitoring tools—to inform instruction and track student growth.
  • Apply evidence‑based practices and interventions matched to individual student needs.
  • Support students in developing self‑advocacy skills and learning strategies.
  • Provide clear, ongoing direction and guidance to instructional aides working with students on your caseload.
  • Build aides’ capacity to support students effectively and consistently, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Model best practices for working with students with disabilities and give constructive, specific feedback to paraprofessional staff.
  • Foster a team approach to student support where aides feel informed, valued, and equipped.
  • Partner with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families as a core member of each student’s team.
  • Communicate proactively and compassionately with families, centering their knowledge of their child and building trust across cultural and linguistic differences.
  • Contribute to school‑wide culture and initiatives, bringing the same investment to the broader OSA community as to your caseload.
  • Take on responsibilities beyond your direct role as needed, showing up as a flexible and mission‑aligned member of the crew.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
Master’s degree in Special Education preferred.
  • Massachusetts DESE license in Special Education (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement (or willingness to obtain).
  • Demonstrated experience writing high‑quality, legally compliant IEPs.
  • Strong working knowledge of IDEA, state special education regulations, and the IEP process.
  • Experience delivering instruction in both inclusion and pull‑out settings for students with mild to moderate disabilities, including learning disabilities, ADHD, and related needs.
  • Experience supervising, directing, or mentoring paraprofessionals or instructional aides.
  • Comfort using data to drive instruction and monitor IEP goal progress.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners and students across a range of disability categories.
  • A collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and the ability to build trust with families, colleagues, and students.
  • Persistence, flexibility, and a genuine belief that every student is capable of high‑quality work.
Job Requirements
