The Test and Instrumentation Engineer is the primary technical resource for manufacturing test systems, instrumentation, and product validation. This role develops and improves testing methods and technologies to ensure product quality and reliability, while supporting electrical systems, digital manufacturing, and automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency and traceability.
ESSENTIALJOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Testing & Instrumentation
- Lead test system and instrumentation projects from concept through implementation, validation, and handoff.
- Develop, validate, implement, maintain and support production test systems and methodologies used to verify product safety, performance, functionality, reliability and quality.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, contractors, and equipment suppliers to design and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and methods that improve testing effectiveness, product verification, productivity, and overall operational performance.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including test methods, validation plans, and data collection standards.
- Support safe operation and compliance of manufacturing equipment, test systems, and related technologies.
- Support manufacturing traceability, data collection, and connected manufacturing technologies across production operations.
RFID would be one such example. - Design, implement, and maintain work-in-process (WIP) data collection systems to support real-time production tracking and reporting.
- Implement and maintain systems that improve operational visibility and manufacturing performance.
- Support the controls and industrial technologies used throughout manufacturing operations.
- Develop project scopes and proposals, capital budget recommendations with cost justifications, and lead projects ranging from conception to implementation.
- Demonstrated experience developing test methods, validation plans, data collection systems, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, RFID, barcode systems, or SQL databases, preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical, machine safety, and OSHA standards, preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Test Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field - or an equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on experience (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician, Level I, or comparable credential).
- Five or more years of experience supporting manufacturing test systems, instrumentation, or electrical systems.
- Experience with automated test systems, product validation, production testing, and electrical safety testing, preferred.
- Experience designing instrumentation, data acquisition, and manufacturing test solutions, preferred.
- Experience working with electrical contractors and manufacturing equipment suppliers, preferred.
- Relevant industry certification, such as ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), Level I, or comparable electrical/automation credentials, preferred.
