Die Set-Up Technician

NSC Staffing is seeking a skilled Die Set-Up Technician to support manufacturing operations in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. This position is responsible for the setup, adjustment, operation, and maintenance of stamping presses and dies to ensure high-quality production and maximum efficiency.

The ideal candidate has mechanical aptitude, manufacturing experience, and the ability to work independently while maintaining production schedules, safety standards, and quality requirements.

Position Overview

The Die Set-Up Technician is responsible for setting up and adjusting dies in stamping presses, ensuring proper machine operation, maintaining production quality, and supporting manufacturing operations. This role works closely with production, supervision, and tool room personnel to optimize production performance and minimize downtime.

Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities Die Set-Up & Press Operation
  • Set up and adjust dies in stamping presses according to production requirements and set-up sheets.
  • Configure, adjust, and operate presses and related mechanical equipment.
  • Verify proper die alignment and machine settings to ensure parts are produced within specification.
  • Perform die adjustments during set-ups and production runs to maintain quality standards.
  • Ensure quality production at expected production rates.
Production & Workflow Coordination
  • Coordinate work assignments based on production travelers and schedules.
  • Ensure required dies are properly staged and prepared before production runs.
  • Shut down completed jobs and return dies to designated storage locations.
  • Support efficient production flow and meet production deadlines.
Quality Assurance
  • Inspect parts during production to verify conformance with specifications.
  • Monitor machine operation and identify potential quality or equipment issues.
  • Report production concerns, equipment malfunctions, or quality issues to supervision.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and records.
Equipment Maintenance & Support
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance including:
    • Cleaning
    • Oiling
    • Lubrication
    • Basic machine care
  • Work closely with Tool Room personnel to communicate die performance concerns and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Provide information needed to support die repairs and maintenance activities.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
  • Follow all company safety procedures and manufacturing policies.
  • Properly wear and utilize required PPE.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and streamline processes.
  • Support a positive team environment and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to complete required documentation and production records accurately.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience operating stamping presses, punch presses, or related manufacturing equipment preferred.
  • Experience with die set-up and press adjustments.
  • Previous experience in metal stamping or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
Certifications
  • Forklift certification required (training available if needed).
Work Schedule
  • Monday – Friday
  • 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • Overtime may be required based on production demands.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing and production facility environment.
  • Frequent exposure to:

    • Mechanical equipment
    • Industrial noise
    • Metal fabrication operations
  • Required use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Fast-paced production environment with strict quality and production requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 75 pounds.
