The company offers location and inspection expertise that goes beyond traditional utility location, covering sewer imaging, inspection, and locating sewer mains and laterals using the latest technology. Northern Lights provides 24/7 protection to its customers across the United States.

Job Summary
  • Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets per 811 dig laws
  • Use utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment
  • Utilize flags and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities
  • Prepare reports, forms, and memos to document completed work and any problems encountered or resolved
  • Take pictures of each located utility line for each 811 ticket
  • Investigate and prepare detailed documentation on excavations that result in damage to underground utilities
  • Use a cell‑phone based app to record locating marks, photos, and complete required documents for clients, excavators, and property owners
  • Participate in on‑call rotation
Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of best locate practices, procedures, and 811 law
  • Read and interpret utility maps and as‑built civil engineering drawings
  • Maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of all provided equipment and vehicle
  • Maintain a tobacco‑free vehicle
  • Locate underground utilities using multiple methods of locating
  • Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
  • Maintain and operate small‑to‑medium sized equipment and trucks
  • Complete paperwork and documentation promptly
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, general public, and other stakeholders
  • Pay attention to detail
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to travel (75% or more)
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a DOT physical certification
  • Be available to work varying schedules and overtime
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality

Qualifications
