Job Description:
Assist the Pastor in Providing Pastoral Care for parishioners of Corpus Christi Parish (Sturgeon Bay) and Holy Name of Mary Catholic Parish (Maplewood)- Recruit and train parish volunteers in pastoral visits to the sick, homebound and residents of long-term care facilities.
- Personally visit the sick, homebound and residents of long-term care facilities.
- Coordinate Pastor Visits Triage visits with the homebound to ensure they receive greater care.
- Maintain records of visits.
- Assist pastor in planning funeral liturgies, and coordinating with funeral homes.
- Based upon mutual comfort of pastor/care coordinator – training will be provided to lead vigil and committal services.
- Serve as a resource for the parishes’ bereavement ministry committee.
Schedule is flexible. Requires the ability and integrity to manage work remotely and on-site where needed during regular business hours. Ability to drive is a requirement of this position, since travel is required to visit parishioners in their residence, hospitals and/or long-term care facilities. Mileage is reimbursed at the standard IRS rate. Estimated at 10-15 hours per week, with some flexibility to accommodate occasional longer workdays, evenings and weekends.
Person in this position will work in an inside office environment; would work alone at times and frequently with a group; normal hours would be 10-15 hours per week and may occasionally include evenings and weekends.
Works under the direction of the Pastor. Works independently within authority-limits and expertise. The direction from the Pastor to assign objectives, assist in task priority setting, review results and offer guidance. Requires individual initiative in recognition of problems and solutions. Participation in monthly staff meetings, and diocesan training is required. Receives minimal supervision. Incumbent must establish priorities and independently set daily objectives to meet deadlines and address urgent situations as they occur.

Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the community, clergy, parishioners, staff, and support agencies. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and people who are grieving. Responsible for effective use of budgeted resources. Recommend purchase of major expense items and controls individual expenses to parish pre-approved limits.
Considerable judgment and independent decisions making is required regarding compliance to policies. Decisions are moderately complex. Requires ability to thoroughly investigate and analyze problems and recommend the proper course of action. Judgment and tact must be used in communication of policies and procedures.
