Machinist – Day Shift

This day-shift machinist role focuses on setting up and operating machining equipment to produce high-quality parts, interpreting advanced blueprints and programs, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. You will use a variety of measurement devices, tooling, and machine controls to run both existing and new parts with minimal quality issues, while supporting team members through training and collaboration.

• Read and interpret advanced blueprints to understand part specifications and machining requirements.
• Verify, load, and set up tooling, including entering accurate tool data into machine controls.
• Create complex part setups using all available tools, fixtures, and devices to ensure efficient and precise machining.
• Read, understand, and work with CNC programs, including writing and editing simple programs as needed.
• Operate machining equipment to run parts, including new parts not previously produced by you or the company.
• Use measurement devices such as calipers and micrometers to inspect and verify part dimensions and quality.
• Perform thorough inspection of parts and document results to maintain minimal quality issues.
• Recognize patterns in processes and problems, and document findings to support troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
• Train and mentor employees effectively on machining practices, setups, measurement, and safety.
• Apply a strong understanding of machine controls and axis movement to optimize part production.
• Adjust and optimize feed rates and spindle speeds to achieve the required finish, accuracy, and productivity.
• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the team and department.
• Understand and implement 5S principles as part of ongoing continuous improvement efforts.
• Follow established instructions, routines, and processes to achieve consistent, high-quality results, while evaluating and refining procedures as needed.
• Engage in clear, courteous, effective, honest, and open communication with team members and others across the organization.
• Accept responsibility for consistently excellent productivity and quality in all assigned tasks.

• Strong understanding of verifying, loading, and setting up tooling, including entering tool data.
• Experience creating complex part setups using a variety of tools, fixtures, and devices.
• Full ability to read, understand, and work with CNC programs, including writing and editing simple programs.
• Fluency with measurement devices such as calipers and micrometers.
• Proficiency in machining operations, including lathe work and machine setup.
• Good understanding of machine controls and axis movement.
• Solid knowledge of feed rates and spindle speeds and how they affect part quality and productivity.
• Capability to run new parts with minimal guidance while maintaining quality standards.
• Ability to effectively train and coach other employees in machining and safety practices.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety procedures.
• Ability to recognize and document process and problem-solving patterns.
• Consistent reliability in attendance, punctuality, and engagement throughout the shift.

• Experience promoting a safety-focused culture within a production or machining environment.
• Familiarity with 5S methodology and continuous improvement practices.
