Why this Role Exists:Inventory accuracy is the backbone of a great in-store experience. This role exists to make sure every shipment that arrives at the store is received, verified, and put away correctly-and that inventory stays accurate and available, so customers always find what they came into the store for.
Key Responsibilities:Receiving
- Verify inbound shipments against packing slips and purchase orders
- Report shortages, overages, and damaged goods to the warehouse or vendor
- Complete and sign off on receiving paperwork
- Put away received inventory to correct bin and shelf locations
- Maintain an organized, clearly labeled stockroom layout
- Rotate stock (FIFO) where applicable
- Run recurring cycle counts
- Conduct full physical inventory counts as scheduled
- Reconcile count results against system records
- Investigate and document inventory variances
- Process or elevate inventory adjustments
- Pull stock from the backroom to the sales floor
- Monitor low-stock levels and prioritize restocks
- Support planogram and reset execution with product pulls
- Process customer returns going back to stock or to the vendor
- Handle return-to-vendor paperwork and shipments
- Log and route defective or damaged merchandise
- Prepare and ship store-to-store inventory transfers
- Pick and pack online orders (ship-from-store), where applicable
- Secure high-value and high-theft inventory
- Flag shrink patterns or suspicious discrepancies
- Maintain safe, compliant stockroom conditions
- Operate and maintain pallet jacks and scanners
- Maintain receiving logs, discrepancy reports, and count records
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior retail, stockroom, or warehouse experience preferred
- Comfortable using handheld scanners, POS, and inventory management systems
- Strong attention to detail and basic math/reconciliation skills
- Ability to work independently and follow safety procedures
- Forklift or pallet jack certification a plus, where applicable
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40-50 lbs regularly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders and use stockroom equipment safely
- Availability may include early mornings for shipment receiving, plus weekends and holidays as needed based on business demand
- Inventory counts are accurate and completed on schedule, with minimal unexplained variance
- Shipments are received, verified, and put away the same day with no backlog
- The sales floor rarely runs out of stock because replenishment is proactive
- The stockroom stays organized, safe, and audit-ready at all times
