Camp Sewataro is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and flexible professional to join our Community Support Team as an Inclusion Counselor. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in special education, mental health, counseling, or youth behavioral support who are passionate about helping children succeed in a camp environment.

The Inclusion Counselor provides targeted emotional and behavioral support to campers who may need additional guidance to fully participate in camp. This position is also a key support resource for counselors, offering strategies, tools, and in-the-moment coaching to promote safety, inclusion, and positive group culture.

Key Responsibilities Camper Behavioral and Emotional Support
  • Provide in-the-moment support for campers experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges
  • Help de-escalate situations quickly and safely, stepping in when needed
  • Conduct observations and maintain detailed notes to support ongoing assessment and planning
  • Assist with short-term and long-term behavior plans and positive incentive systems
Collaboration and Communication
  • Report directly to the Community Support Supervisor
  • Work closely with Section Supervisors and Leadership Team to ensure cohesive camper support
  • Share observations with leadership to strengthen communication and coordinated care
Counselor Coaching and Group Support
  • Support counselors in setting group goals around inclusion and behavior
  • Provide regular check-ins and strategies to help staff feel confident and supported
  • Create and share resources such as games and behavioral tools to strengthen community culture
Documentation and Systems
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, recognizing camper and staff records as private
  • Log behavioral notes and case documentation into Camp Minder
Pre-Camp Responsibilities
  • Review camper profiles alongside the Community Support Supervisor
  • Assist in training first-time counselors on rule-setting, community building, and supportive behavior practices
  • Develop and share inclusion-focused tools and resources for staff
Physical Expectations
  • This is an active camp role requiring standing, walking, and moving throughout the day in an outdoor environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Personal interest in the safety and well-being of children
  • Special Education teacher, mental health counselor, or guidance counselor background strongly preferred
  • Experience in teaching, social work, counseling, or youth development preferred
Experience Requirements
  • Must be a rising senior in college or a college graduate
  • At least 1 year of internship or field placement experience working with special needs, at-risk, behavioral, or vulnerable youth populations in a frontline role
  • Camp experience is strongly preferred
