Security Clearance

U.S. citizenship required to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. Candidate must have an active security clearance or be able to obtain one after day
1.

Responsibilities
  • Work with vendors to optimize generator systems based on system and customer requirements.
  • Provide support for legacy generator systems.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and vendors to develop designs based on system performance and operational specifications.
  • Analyze, simulate, test, and document power generation and conversion (and related analog) circuitry.
  • Help develop best practices for power generation and related technologies.
  • Resolve production and obsolescence issues related to existing generator product designs.
  • Support in‑field and reach‑back troubleshooting, subsystem/component/benchtop repairs and regression testing.
  • Instrument and collect measurements on equipment (voltage, current, temperature) using electronic test and data acquisition equipment.
  • Present reviews of technical data to program leadership, technical staff, and customer community.
  • Manage related risk discussions.
  • Lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution.
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
  • Travel to Tewksbury, MA;
    Marlborough, MA;
    Andover, MA;
    Woburn, MA; and/or Pelham, NH as required.
Department Design Focus
  • Electric Generator controls & operation engineering for wound‑field synchronous generators and excitation controls for both stationary and mobile applications (30kW to 3000kW).
  • Power System Design – Power System Simulation and Modeling, Solid State Transmitters, Tube Transmitters, High Voltage Design, Power Sources, Generators.
  • Power Conversion – AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC, Linear and Switching Supplies, Power Factor Correction (PFC).
  • Power Distribution – Multi‑Phase Power Control, Fault Reporting, Protection Circuits, Redundant Systems, Protective relay systems for medium sized power sub‑stations (4160V to 15kV).
  • Power Sub‑System Design – Filters, Harmonic Control, EMI, Circuit Simulation, Magnetics, Protective Relay Systems, Short Circuit and Stress Analyses.
  • Control Systems – Servo Control Systems, Motor/Power/Process Control, Digital Feedback Systems, Design of systems using MATLABSimulink for power system simulations.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Minimum 8years’ prior relevant experience in power generation, power system design, power conversion, power distribution, power sub‑system design and/or control systems.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.
  • Experience with safety issues related to rotating electromechanical systems and high‑voltage systems > 500

    VAC.
  • Active or qualified for a security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally to support programs and customers.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Fundamental knowledge of different types of electromagnetic rotating machinery (motors and/or generators).
  • Experience with electric motor manufacturing processes (stator windings, lamination stacking, stator varnishing, insulation classes).
  • Knowledge of synchronous and induction machine design of motors and generators.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Hardware development experience in a DoD environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/manage a technical team.
  • Experience generating technical documentation and reports.
  • Knowledge of test and production methods for electronics/power system components.
  • Experience interfacing with procurement and manufacturing and external suppliers.
  • Experience interfacing with DoD customer community.
