Collins Aerospace (an RTX company) is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer in the Strategic Communications team. The role involves creating creative and cost‑effective solutions for ground and airborne systems and supports a variety of communication systems including SATCOM, LOS radio terminals, and secure switching networks.
What You Will Do- Oversee the development of full lifecycle solutions from CONOPS to Validation
- Act as a subject‑matter expert within the discipline with advanced to expert knowledge of the work area
- Oversee and perform lab activities including definition, set‑up, configuration management, and testing
- Ensure modeling, hardware, and software interfaces utilize a scalable ontology
- Oversee and support the integration of solutions within their target environment
- Coach, review, and delegate work of lower‑level professionals
- Contribute to the development of discipline goals and planning efforts (cost and schedule)
- Influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures
- Manage moderately sized projects or processes
- Manage the entrance and exit criteria of design reviews, integration, dry run, and formal qualification testing
- Review, moderate and document major changes in systems or processes to solve difficult and complex problems
- Analyze and document system behavior
- Support system trade studies, requirements analysis, and allocation to subsystems
- Strong integration and test experience including test procedure development, test execution, test reporting, and test automation
- Knowledge of or application of Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
- Proficient in tooling, e.g., Microsoft products, Jira, IBM EWM, etc.
- Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 8 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree and minimum 5 years of experience
- Active, transferable Secret security clearance
- U.S. citizenship
- Experience in communication radio and systems: SATCOM, LOS/BLOS, AEHF, PTW, or V/UHF
- Experience in Environmental Qualification Testing (EQT)
- Proficient in tooling including CAMEO, Rhapsody
- Experience in proposal support including writing Basis of Estimates (BOEs)
- Experience in System Level Integration, Verification, and Validation (IV&V) for ground, ship, submarine, or airborne platforms
- Experience in virtual machine design and deployment
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and ability to effectively communicate with IPT leaders, hardware and software development engineers, specialty engineers, program managers, and customers
