Principal Windows System Administrator

Position Overview

Principal System Administrator – Marlborough, MA (Onsite, U.S. Citizen required). Responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining secure Windows/Linux systems in a 24x7 environment.

• Serve as a Windows System Administrator with deep expertise in Microsoft Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2019/2022, Linux Servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, Skype, Exchange, MECM, and Power Shell.
• Design, implement, troubleshoot, and maintain both Linux and Windows servers, desktops, and virtual OSs on a large‑scale enterprise network.
• Build, harden, and sustain secure Windows, desktop, and virtual infrastructures ensuring compliance with DFARS, RMF, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
• Build virtual servers using VMWare, Horizon, and related platforms.
• Collaborate across Digital Technology, program teams, and engineering groups to deliver cost‑effective solutions and resolve infrastructure challenges.
• Ensure reliability and performance through proactive monitoring, system optimization, and infrastructure management.
• Develop and maintain technical and operational documentation to enhance Windows services.
• Lead performance tuning, patching, lifecycle management, licensing oversight, and hardware/software refresh activities.
• Respond to and resolve service and support requests with clear documentation and customer service.
• Troubleshoot complex Windows platform issues, conduct root‑cause analysis, and support maintenance activities outside standard hours.

• Active and transferable U.S. government‑issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Typically requires a university degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (or an advanced degree with 5 years).
• Experience in the design, implementation, and administration of Microsoft Windows and Active Directory environments.
• Experience managing users, groups, and permissions; performing backup, recovery, and efficient management of Windows systems and network resources.
• Experience with ESXi and VMWare virtualization technologies.
• Experience applying secure system configurations, optimizing application and user settings, and troubleshooting complex Windows issues.
• Must obtain DoDD
  8140/8570 baseline certification (CompTIA Security+ or equivalent) within six months of start date.
• Desired experience: security and compliance controls, advanced technical writing, Windows enterprise technologies (ADDS, WSUS, MECM, MDT, PKI, IIS, SQL, Skype, Exchange), integration of Windows and Linux via Centrify, Samba, SSSD, and NIS, virtualization and VDI platforms, vulnerability assessment tools, scripting and automation (Power Shell, Bash, Python, Ansible, etc.), networking fundamentals, support for engineering teams.

100% onsite work in a closed area; up to 15% travel to RTX locations in MA, RI, and NH.

Salary range: 86,800

USD – 165,200
