Network Engineer, Principal Specialist (P3)

Location:
Marlborough, MA – Fully Onsite
Security Clearance:
Active U.S. Secret clearance required (U.S. citizenship mandatory). Clearance must be in effect on day one.
Travel:
Occasional domestic travel (~5-10% of the time).
- Maintain smooth operation of voice and data networks.
- Plan, evaluate, coordinate, and perform installation or reconfiguration of hardware and software components of the communication network.
- Develop technical expertise in all areas of voice and data network hardware and software interconnection, including switches, routers, firewalls, authentication servers, encryptors, etc.
- Maintain network management software platforms and propose solutions aligned with future needs and cost efficiencies while ensuring redundancy and uptime.
- Prepare and ensure appropriate network documentation (operational instructions, technical diagrams) exists; create new documentation when absent.
- Provide regular monitoring and network analysis for short- and long-range planning of in-house systems.
- Coordinate third‑party maintenance for network equipment and vendor support.
- Design networks, selecting hardware and software packages, defining hierarchical architecture, and addressing geographical limitations.
- Collaborate with program engineers to resolve networking problems in tactical environments.
- Mentor, train, and share knowledge with the technical team.
- Work outside normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as required.
- University degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems, including software upgrades.
- Proficiency with current cabling and fiber standards.
- Active, transferable U.S. Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Willingness and availability to travel domestically.
- Experience with access control lists, security posture, and vendor best practices.
- Visio diagramming and design capabilities.
- Knowledge of encryption device configuration and troubleshooting.
- Customer‑service skills (oral and written communication).
- Platforms such as IP telephony, NTP servers, Gem One, and Solar Winds.
- Certifications:
Security+ within 6 months;
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) highly desired within a year. - Ability to work under time constraints.
- Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
- Salary range: $86,800–$165,200 USD.
