Save A Dog is looking for a temporary Volunteer Coordinator to manage the Adult and Teen volunteer programs while our current coordinator is on maternity leave. This role involves coordinating schedules using the Volgistics software program, emailing the daily schedule to volunteers, and finding replacements for volunteer slots as needed. You will provide training and direction for new volunteers and work with staff to teach hands-on animal care, basic training, and enrichment for the dogs in the shelter.
You will staff meetings and assist with shelter duties. This position requires a 20-30 hour per week commitment with an immediate start date ending in mid-July, with potential for continued employment in a similar position.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules using Volgistics; email daily schedules to volunteers; arrange replacements for volunteer slots as needed.
- Provide training and direction for new volunteers; teach hands-on animal care, basic training, and enrichment for dogs in the shelter.
- Assist staff with shelter duties; staff meetings; record keeping of students’ community credits.
- Work with dogs of all sizes and dispositions; ensure safety and welfare of animals and volunteers.
- Experience handling dogs of various sizes and dispositions; knowledge of dog behavior and reward-based training is preferred.
- CORI test (or willingness to complete); comfortable working with people at all cognitive levels, including students with learning disabilities.
- Strong communication skills; ability to learn software programs; ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
- Friendly, outgoing person with a teaching background and interest in helping adults of all ages; previous dog training and/or shelter experience is a plus.
- Must be available for 20-30 hours per week; flexible start and endpoint dates as described.
