The Sudbury Water District is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to fill the fulltime position of Water Distribution Technician Operator. The ideal candidate is a reliable, skilled professional with a strong performance record and an interest in career advancement. This position is part of the field operations crew and reports daily to the Foreman and, as needed, to the Operations Manager.
Minimum qualifications strictly apply.
- 3 – 5 years of successful performance in the public drinking water sector
- Preference for candidates with construction, plumbing, or other relevant specialized experience
- Proficiency with computers and mobile devices, including iPads, for work order management and data collection
- Active Massachusetts Drinking Water Distribution 1 (D1) Certification (preferred but not required)
- Active Massachusetts Drinking Water Treatment 1 (T1) Certification (preferred but not required)
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required)
- Successful completion of drug and alcohol screening
- Availability for emergency callouts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Reside within 30 minutes of the Sudbury Water District Administration Office
- Perform duties as an experienced Distribution Operator
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of drinking water distribution system operations and equipment maintenance
- Complete scheduled and emergency repairs on pipes, valves, and hydrants
- Operate work order management system
- Safely operate heavy equipment, including lawn tractors and dump trucks
- Apply strong critical‑thinking skills and contribute to a high‑performing team
- Provide excellent customer service in all interactions
- Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and participate in after‑hours on‑call and emergency response rotations
- Perform manual labor, including lifting at least 50 pounds
