Lead Carpenter – Sudbury Design Group
Sudbury Design Group is seeking an experienced, detail‑oriented Lead Carpenter to join our growing design/build team. This is a leadership role for a skilled craftsperson who takes pride in quality workmanship, understands proper building practices, and thrives in a collaborative, high‑end residential environment. We specialize in custom residential landscapes and outdoor living environments, and we are looking for someone who can lead projects from planning through execution.
Position OverviewThe Lead Carpenter will oversee and execute the construction of custom outdoor structures and landscape features, working closely with architects, designers, and project managers to ensure exceptional results. This role requires strong technical expertise, organizational skills, and the ability to manage materials and jobsite workflow efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Estimate, source, and order materials for assigned projects.
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and construction plans.
- Collaborate with architects, designers, and project managers.
- Lead on‑site carpentry operations and maintain high‑quality standards.
- Construct custom residential outdoor structures, including decks, pool houses, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, pavilions, and other specialty structures.
- Ensure adherence to proper building practices, safety standards, and local codes.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites.
- Mentor and guide carpentry crew members as needed.
- Extensive experience in residential carpentry and structural construction.
- Strong knowledge of framing, decking systems, exterior finishes, and outdoor construction techniques.
- Ability to confidently read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Proven experience in estimating materials and managing procurement.
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL) – Required.
- Home Improvement Contractor License (HICL) – Required.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
