Traffic Supervisor

Part Time - 2.5 hours/week (Non-Union Position)
Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of a school Traffic Supervisor is to help children safely cross the street as they walk or bicycle to and from school, and control traffic at the entrance of the school.
Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
Discourage children from behaving unsafely near traffic, such as darting into the street without looking or crossing against a traffic signal;
Encourage safe behavior by all pedestrians at the school crossing;
Use existing gaps in traffic to help students cross safely. When the natural traffic flow does not allow enough time for children to safely cross a street, create gaps by stopping traffic temporarily;
Always be the first person on the street and the last person off the street;
Alert motorists that pedestrians are in the process of using the school crossing;
Report any incidents or conditions that present a potential safety hazard to the school children or the Supervisor;
Control and direct traffic into and exiting the school.
Qualifications:
All applicants must speak the English language, understand and follow oral and written instructions and establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public. Must be able to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.
Applicants must also be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time without assistive device; must be able to perform overhead activities requiring the use of their arms; when required, must be able to run to respond rapidly to assist children; intermittently bend, squat, kneel, twist and reach without assistive device; distinguish colors; hear adequately at high levels of background noise and lift or carry weight of ten (10) pounds or less;
must be fully alert and able to respond promptly in potentially unsafe situations; must be able to exercise good judgement when responding to children's inquiries and their needs.
All school Traffic Supervisors will be trained by the Sudbury Police Department in Massachusetts traffic laws related to traffic control, pedestrians right of way, school zones and related laws.
AM & PM Traffic Supervisor
Pay rate: $22.17/hour
Morning
Hours:
8:30-9AM each day, 2.5 hours/week (Paid for hours worked and submitted on compensation forms)
Afternoon
Hours:
3:15-3:45 each day, 2.5 hours/week (Paid for hours worked and submitted on compensation forms)
