This position is fully onsite in Bloomfield, CT, five days per week, with the company relocating to Suffield, CT later in 2026. Liquid Piston is seeking a Genset Mechanical Integration Engineer to lead the mechanical integration and packaging of electrical and electromechanical systems within our next-generation rotary engine-powered generator platforms. This role is ideal for a mechanical engineer with experience designing around electrical hardware, including packaging high-voltage or low-voltage electrical components, power electronics, wiring, harness routing, battery systems, and electromechanical assemblies.
You'll own the mechanical integration of these systems into compact, high-performance engine and generator packages while balancing manufacturability, serviceability, thermal management, vibration, and overall system performance. You'll work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, and Test Engineering teams, to help develop innovative power generation systems for defense, aerospace, and commercial applications.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical integration and packaging of electrical and electromechanical systems within Liquid Piston genset platforms.
- Design mounting structures, enclosures, brackets, and interfaces for electrical components including power electronics, control units, sensors, wiring, connectors, batteries, and generator hardware.
- Develop efficient packaging layouts while considering space claim, accessibility, manufacturability, serviceability, thermal management, vibration, and environmental requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Electrical and Controls Engineering teams to integrate electrical hardware into complete engine and generator assemblies.
- Design and release mechanical components and assemblies using CAD.
- Create detailed drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
- Support prototype builds, assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and design validation.
- Participate in design reviews and DFMEA activities.
- Work with suppliers to develop manufacturable solutions for integrated assemblies.
- Support product testing and incorporate lessons learned into future designs.
- Help optimize packaging for weight, durability, and cost while maintaining performance requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- 2+ years of mechanical design experience.
- Experience integrating electrical or electromechanical systems into complex products.
- Strong mechanical packaging and system integration experience.
- Experience designing around electrical components such as:
- Power electronics
- Control modules
- Wiring harnesses
- Connectors
- Sensors
- Batteries or energy storage systems
- Electrical distribution hardware
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (Solid Works preferred).
- Understanding of DFM/DFA, GD&T, and mechanical tolerancing.
