Clinical Social Worker; FP

Overview

The Connecticut Department of Correction is seeking to fill a position for a highly motivated and experienced licensed Clinical Social Worker. This recruitment will fill an active vacancy at Mac Dougall-Walker Correctional Institution (Suffield, CT) and other future vacancies on second shift at our various facilities.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position on second shift at Mac Dougall-Walker Correctional Institution. Schedule is Monday-Friday between 2:00pm and 10:00pm with rotating weekend and holiday shifts.

Clinical Social Workers within the correctional setting provide a range of clinical and case management functions to those entering the custody of the Department of Correction. Professional Counselors work within a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality, service-oriented care.

The incumbent will have the opportunity to work within a clinically rich setting, with opportunities to provide intake assessments, individual psychotherapy, crisis management, suicide risk assessment, case management services and other clinical activities, with opportunities for discharge planning with external supports and research-driven programming.

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments
• Develop interdisciplinary treatment plans
• Conduct risk assessments
• Coordinate with community supports and treatment providers
• Engage in evidence-based behavioral health services including individual and group psychotherapy
• Provide care for a population with mood, psychotic and personality disorders
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including behavioral health clinicians, psychologists, psychiatry providers and medical and corrections professionals

• Knowledge of social work methodology, casework, group work and community mobilization
• Knowledge of family and interpersonal relationship dynamics
• Knowledge of ethics of professional social work
• Knowledge of mental illnesses and treatment approaches
• Interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills
• Ability to devise and implement a treatment plan with measurable goals and address client needs; independently apply current psychiatric treatment modalities

Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Connecticut.

• Correctional or forensic behavioral health treatment experience
• Experience with crisis intervention
• Experience with behavior management
• Experience with individual and group psychotherapy
• Experience with criminal justice involved adults

• Must possess and retain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20-195 (m-z) of the Connecticut General Statutes
• Must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S.
• 1320a-7b(f)
• May be required to have knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in certain positions
• May be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication in certain positions
• May be required to travel
