Position: Clinical Social Worker (40 Hour)

Job Overview

The Connecticut Department of Correction is seeking an experienced licensed Clinical Social Worker for mac Dougall‑Walker Correctional Institution (Suffield, CT) and future second‑shift vacancies at other facilities.

Position Details

Full‑time, 40 hours per week on second shift (Monday‑Friday 2:00 pm‑10:00 pm) with rotating weekend and holiday shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and crisis management.
  • Develop interdisciplinary treatment plans and perform risk assessments.
  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy, including suicide risk assessment.
  • Coordinate with community supports and treatment providers.
  • Engage in evidence‑based behavioral health services and collaborative discharge planning.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, APRNs, medical personnel, and custody staff.
  • Document clinical records, write reports, and maintain treatment documentation in accordance with agency and accrediting standards.
  • Consult with other behavioral health providers to improve service delivery.
  • Occasionally provide forensic evaluations and court testimony as required.
  • May participate in research projects and other related duties.
Qualifications
  • Active licensure as a Clinical Social Worker in the State of Connecticut.
  • Knowledge of social work methodology, casework, group work, family dynamics, and ethical issues.
  • Understanding of social, cultural, economic, medical, psychological, and legal factors affecting clients and families.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to devise and implement treatment plans with measurable goals.
  • Experience applying psychiatric treatment modalities independently.
  • Eligibility to participate in federal healthcare programs under 42 U.S. Code § 1320a‑7b(f).
  • Awareness of sign language and communication with the deaf and hearing impaired, if required.
  • Spoken Spanish proficiency is preferred for certain positions.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Correctional or forensic behavioral health treatment experience.
  • Experience with crisis intervention, behavior management, and individual/group psychotherapy.
  • Experience working with criminal‑justice‑involved adults.
