- Maintain and repair Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service’s fleet of fire appliances, specialist vehicles and operational equipment.
- Carry out servicing, inspections, diagnostics and major repairs at Phoenix House Workshops and fire stations across Suffolk.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and electronic faults, including work on modern vehicle technologies and CAN Bus systems.
- Apply your technical expertise to a unique and highly specialised fleet, developing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Support the 24/7 emergency call-out service, helping to keep vehicles and equipment operational and ready to respond to emergencies.
- Significant experience maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
- A City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair.
- A completed apprenticeship would be advantageous.
- A full UK driving licence, including Category C (Class
2). - A flexible approach to work and willingness to participate in the call-out rota. You must live within approximately one hour of Phoenix House Workshops.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical and diagnostic skills.

- A good understanding of safe working practices, including working at height, with lifting equipment, inspection pits and controlled substances.
The Fleet Team plays a vital role in keeping Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service operational by maintaining fire appliances, specialist vehicles and emergency equipment. Based at Phoenix House Workshops, our skilled and supportive team helps ensure frontline crews have safe, reliable resources when responding to incidents across Suffolk. This role offers a great work-life balance with a 37-hour week over a nine-day fortnight, every other Friday off, and opportunities to participate in the on‑call rota, supporting the Service’s 24/7 emergency response capability.
