Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team in Suffolk, Virginia. This Contract to permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic environment within the construction industry. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and supporting cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

- Maintain clear and consistent communication with vendors, customers, employees, and leadership to address issues promptly.

- Assist with administrative tasks related to accounts payable, operations, and project management.

- Prepare monthly account reconciliations for the balance sheet to ensure accuracy.

- Create and post monthly closing journal entries as part of the financial reporting process.

- Support intercompany invoicing and consolidation to ensure proper accounting practices.

- Process weekly payroll efficiently and accurately.

- Review vendor statements against system payables and follow up to resolve missing invoices.

- Compile detailed financial data and generate reports for internal and external use.

- Utilize software platforms such as Excel and other Microsoft tools to streamline accounting functions.

- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other construction professionals to ensure smooth financial operations. Requirements - Proven experience in managing corporate tax returns and related processes.

- Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledger accounts.

- Strong knowledge of accounts payable (AP) procedures and systems.

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software platforms.

- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Excellent problem-solving skills to address financial discrepancies.

- Effective communication skills to work with internal teams and external partners.

- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse professionals in the construction industry.
