EHS Coordinator

The EHS Coordinator performs a broad range of environmental and safety administrative duties, including the following: managing worker's compensation process, maintaining safety data, scheduling environmental & safety training, and maintaining compliance records. This position is a professional level position in support of the administration of SPSA's EHS program. Responsibilities of this position include ensuring the environmental compliance, health and safety of employees while on SPSA property and by enforcing and advising line management on environmental & safety policies, procedures, and practices.

All operations will be completed with/without direct, on-site supervision of the EHS Manager.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties & Responsibilities - % of Time

Manages worker's compensation, safety data, schedules training, and maintains compliance records - 15%

Manages environmental training and compliance records - 15%

Corresponds with regulatory authorities as directed - 10%

Prepares written reports and maintains required documentation for EHS.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promptly prepares written reports and relay findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Maintains accurate records
  • Corresponds with regulatory authorities as directed by the EHS Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental mandated regulations.
  • Assist in ensuring consistent enforcement of worker's compensation, environmental & safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of environmental & safety training and education programs.
  • Communicates environmental & safety area results to appropriate line and staff management, through statistical analysis and quarterly reports.
  • Organize safety committee schedules, draft meeting minutes, and follow up on pending action items.
  • All operations will be completed with/without direct, on-site supervision of the EHS Manager.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Typical Qualifications

Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • Required Education – Associates degree in related field (safety, environmental, health administration).
  • Required Experience - Two years of EHS experience in manufacturing, shipyard, construction (or similar) industry.
  • 2 years of training or experience in the areas of administration and safety, environmental, worker's compensation.
  • Required Licenses Ability to obtain, within 1 year of employment: OSHA 10/30 General Industry
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record required to operate SPSA owned or leased vehicles.

An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered. Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic knowledge of environmental laws and regulations related to landfill and solid waste operations.
  • Knowledge of Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) inspections procedures.
  • Knowledge of OSHA inspections procedures.
  • Computer skills to maintain records, communicate effectively via e-mail, and prepare reports and access required forms.
Supplemental Information

Working Conditions

Works in an administrative office setting to complete logs, documentation, and reports.

Ability to drive a company vehicle to SPSA locations in all weather conditions.

Machines, Tools & Equipment .

Uses a personal computer, telephone, and basic office equipment as needed.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Work in a dynamic environment that requires teamwork and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
  • Read, comprehend, and apply waste management regulations at SPSA facilities to prevent receipt of unacceptable waste and determine disposal methods for unacceptable waste.
  • Write clear and concise reports regarding waste inspected and received.
  • Walk and maneuver through waste at SPSA facilities and industrial waste generator sites.
  • Walk on an incline and/or unstable ground, lift, carry, and transport coolers containing samples. Bend, stoop, reach and pull to gather samples.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with internal and external contacts.
  • Read and comprehend hazardous waste regulations and apply them to the safe receipt, classification, and storage of household hazardous waste.
  • Receive and comprehend directions and perform miscellaneous tasks within a specified period.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines, as needed.
